Innovative Technologies for a Sustainable Future

Daikin's relentless focus on engineering excellence dates back more than 100 years. Our founder, engineer Akira Yamada, embedded unwavering quality standards into our DNA, along with a refusal to compromise and a commitment to continuous innovation.

We continue to be defined by our collaborative approach to Research and Development, our pursuit of Open Innovation, and our belief in the power of technology - and the people behind it - to tackle real-world challenges and support a better society.

That's why our 25,000 U.S. employees are working every day to advance the energy efficient technologies that are making American homes and businesses comfortable.

Daikin's Key Technologies

Building on decades of innovation, we continue to pioneer technologies that advance innovation standards for North America. Together, R-32, Inverter, and Heat Pump technologies empower us to create products that not only achieve high performance but that are also designed to accelerate the shift toward a sustainable future.

Inverter

The Core of Energy Efficiency

Daikin's inverter technology is the heart of modern indoor comfort solutions. Think of it as adaptive cruise control for buildings, continuously adjusting cooling and heating output to match exact building needs and eliminating wasteful on/off cycling that plagues conventional systems. Daikin inverter systems are revolutionizing how Daikin systems provide precise temperature control, effective humidity management and energy efficiency in residential, commercial and industrial spaces. Simply put, inverters help make people comfortable while using low energy and operating quietly.

Heat Pumps

A Solution for Decarbonization and Electrification

Daikin's advanced heat pump technology is an all-electric solution that requires no direct fossil fuels, using low-GWP R-32 refrigerant to move heat in the air with only a small amount of electricity. Daikin's heat pump models are designed to be smart, high-performance solutions for heating, cooling, and dehumidification in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. For cooling, they efficiently remove heat from indoor spaces, and for heating they capture heat even from frigid outdoor air, carrying it to warm indoor spaces – with some Daikin models operating in outdoor temperatures as low as -13F. Daikin heat pumps provide consistent, year-round comfort and play a key role in supporting U.S. decarbonization efforts in homes, businesses, and industry.

R-32 Refrigerant

The refrigerant with a lower environmental impact

Refrigerants circulate within HVAC systems to transfer heat, enabling efficient heating and cooling. Daikin's pioneering manufacturing and usage of R-32, a pure, single-component refrigerant, represents a breakthrough in HVAC sustainability. Implemented by more than 50 companies in more than 280 million systems worldwide - including Daikin's ductless mini-splits, air conditioners, heat pump systems, and light commercial and VRV products - R-32 is designed for low charge volumes, simple maintenance, and offers low global warming potential. By using R32, HVAC systems can also benefit from small design.

Spotlight On: Data Center Cooling Solutions

Data centers have evolved beyond mere data storage and processing and now serve as vital infrastructure for AI learning and inference. They can also be heavy users of electricity and water, meaning effective solutions are critical. As a leading global cooling company, Daikin is at the forefront of data center cooling innovation. Our dedicated teams deliver solutions that are designed to deliver high uptime, optimize energy efficiency, support decarbonization, and low water use and construction costs. In August 2025, we added further to our portfolio of advanced data center technologies by acquiring DDC Solutions, a San Diego-based developer of ultra-high-density cooling cabinets and management software for data centers. The acquisition added in-room, rack-level solutions for white space cooling, and underscored our commitment to providing complete data center cooling solutions.
