Daikin is a global company that values the individual needs of each of our locations throughout the world. Over our 25+ year history in North America, we have invested more than $7 billion in people, research, community and production and we feel privileged to have a presence across North America. We are committed to economic prosperity, positive environmental impact, and innovation and we work towards these goals each day.
Demand for air conditioning is expected to increase more than three times by the year 2050 because of economic growth in emerging markets. To address an increase of electricity usage, Daikin is committed to innovating solutions that lessen the impact of HVAC&R systems on the environment while providing the world's population with a comfortable indoor environment.
In 2018, we released our Environmental Vision 2050 — a program which aims to achieve net zero emissions of greenhouse gases while providing a safe and healthy environment, with an eye on 2050. Using IoT and AI, and open innovation, we will meet the world's needs for air solutions by providing clean air environments while at the same time continuing to innovate to help find future solutions to global environmental problems.
North America has its own unique and local product needs, which is where the Daikin North America Research and Development Center (NARDC) and Daikin Applied Development Center (ADC) step in. Located in Texas and in Minneapolis respectively, they are where we create new differentiated products for the North American market, leveraging all Daikin technologies, knowledge, and know-how. We also understand that we can speed up the development of technologies and products and better meet the needs of our society using open innovation. With this in mind, we opened the Daikin Open Innovation Lab in Silicon Valley in Santa Clara, CA, where we collaborate with the brightest minds in order to create a better environment for all.
As a corporate group that will "Co-create New Value in the Air and Environment Fields with Wisdom and Passion," we will continue to live up to the expectations of various stakeholders from customers and shareholders to suppliers and local communities, while solving social issues through our businesses.
