Our Commitment to a Better Tomorrow

Daikin has spent more than a century engineering cutting-edge technologies widely used in homes and businesses. These decades of innovation have built unparalleled expertise, global trust - and a responsibility to lead positive change in society. Now, as a world-leading HVAC manufacturer, Daikin's technologies touch millions of lives daily. Our products - and our decisions - can be felt across more than 170 countries.

Through our global Environmental Vision 2050 and Fusion 25 strategic plans, we aim to achieve carbon neutrality, not only in our business activities, but also in the greenhouse gas emissions that occur throughout the entire lifecycle of our products.

But given the scale of the challenges: air conditioning and fans already account for 10% of all global electricity usage[1]; 10 new ACs are projected to be sold every second between now and 2050[2]; and U.S. electricity grids are under growing strain - the need for comprehensive sustainability solutions has never been greater.

Environmental Vision 2050

Environmental Vision 2050 is Daikin’s long-term commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire lifecycle of our products by 2050. This comprehensive vision guides our efforts to reduce emissions during production, product use, and end-of-life—ensuring we make a positive impact at every stage.

Environmental Vision 2050 areas where we plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the full lifecycle:

  • Helping end users reduce product lifecycle emissions, from the energy they consume to the refrigerants they contain.
  • Investing in development and supporting the adoption of low-carbon technologies for the decarbonization of new and existing buildings, to lower or avoid greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire lifetime of the equipment. Heat pumps play an essential role in the energy transition and path to carbon neutrality.
  • Creating a circular economy for refrigerants, together with governments and stakeholders towards solutions for recovery, recycling, reclamation and reuse.

With our Environmental Vision 2050 strategy, as of FY24, we are proud to share that we have achieved a 27% reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions (compared to emissions without measures, with 2019 as the base year)

Fusion 25
Efforts for Environmental Vision 2050 have been made in close alignment with the global strategic management plan Fusion. In the Fusion 25 Latter-Half Three-Year Plan formulated in 2023, we established “Challenge to Achieve Carbon Neutrality” as one of our growth strategy themes and we continue to promote initiatives for each theme, including the goal that by 2030, all Daikin equipment manufacturing sites aim to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

Science Based Targets initiative certification

In August 2025, Daikin Industries Ltd. announced that it had received certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets for 2050. With this Daikin joined a group of around 2,000 companies world-wide to have science-based net zero targets for 2050.

California Heat Pump Challenge

In 2022, the State of California set a goal for the world’s fifth-largest economy to deploy 6 million heat pump units by 2030. In May 2024, Daikin reiterated our previous support by announcing five goals outlining specific actions. Our first goal: maximizing our U.S. production capacity and forging a clear path to one million heat pump solutions - particularly inverter-based models - in California by the target date. Daikin is working closely with the California Heat Pump Partnership (CAHPP), a groundbreaking alliance that brings together leaders in the public and private sectors to rapidly scale California’s heat pump segment, to help support this important goal.

Daikin & the AIM Act: Leading the Transition to Low-GWP Refrigerants

The American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act of 2020 is a landmark U.S. policy aimed at reducing the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) - the high global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants commonly found in traditional HVAC and refrigeration systems. The AIM Act sets a gradual schedule to phase down high-GWP HFCs, targeting an 85% reduction by 2036. At Daikin, we’re fully aligned with the AIM Act’s goals. And as the global HVAC industry transitions to sustainable refrigerants, Daikin stands firmly behind its strategic decision to choose R-32 as a reliable, efficient, low-GWP refrigerant solution for customers across the United States, from homes to office towers.

Daikin & the Kigali Agreement: Advancing Sustainable Refrigerant Solutions

In October 2016, the global community reached a milestone for climate action with the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. This agreement sets a global schedule to phase down the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in terms of CO₂ equivalent, aiming to significantly reduce the impact of these high global warming-potential gases. Daikin supports the Kigali Agreement and its mission to mitigate climate change through responsible refrigerant management. Our core policy is the “diversity of refrigerants” - we recognize that there is no single, perfect refrigerant for every application. Instead, we carefully consider a range of factors, including ozone depletion potential (ODP), global warming potential (GWP), safety, energy efficiency, availability, affordability, resource efficiency, recyclability, and the total impact of each solution.
